Influence of Sawdust Particle Sizes on the Physico-Mechanical Properties of Unfired Clay Blocks

Sawdust, which is a waste/by-product of the wood/timber industry, can be utilised as valuable raw material in building production due to its abundance and low cost. However, application sawdust manufacture unfired clay blocks has received little investigation. Furthermore, impact different particle sizes on properties not been studied. Therefore, this study screened at three sizes: SP-a (212 ?m < x 300 ?m), SP-b (425 600 ?m) SP-c (1.18 mm 2.00 mm), examine their effects physical mechanical blocks. The density, linear shrinkage, capillary water absorption flexural compressive strengths were among tests performed. Different percentages, i.e., 2.5%, 5%, 7.5% 10% total weight clay, considered. results show that when was added mixture, density samples reduced for all sizes. shrinkage increased but decreased other two size percentage from 2.5% 10%. On hand, coefficient while strength with increasing content groups. highest (CS) (FS) achieved content. it observed (CS—4.74 MPa, FS—2.00 MPa) showed followed by (CS—4.09 FS—1.69 (CS—3.90 FS—1.63 samples. Consequently, good-quality manufactured using up ranging between 425 ?m.
